It's restrictions on track count and MIDI track count and video functionality (unless you buy expensive add-ons) might not affect you, but having no track freeze, PDC, forcing to bounce in real-time (no fast bounce) and (with PTMP) an i-lok dongle, don't make it sit well with a laptop. I don't personally think Protools is a good option for a LAPTOP. There are an abundance of Youtube clips which should give you some visuals on how they work. multichannel audio (surround), scoring, and has very basic video facilities.ĪFAIK neither Logic, nor Protools have a demo you can try. Live - I use Live and love it - It has a fully functional demo - it is a bit different to a trad DAW in ethos though and while it's brilliant for composing and live performance, lacks some features in a common DAW which may or may not affect you - i.e. It has fewer synths and sound content than Logic but also has some plugins such as Variaudio, which is a killer pitch correction.ĭigital Performer - no one mentioned but DP7 is actually very good too. Until v8 the MIDI also was lacking.Ĭubase 5 is awesome (I use it on PC) it also runs well on Mac, unlike some ealrlier versions of Cubase. PTLE and MP are by no means a match for a real PTHD system. Limits on the number of : audio tracks, MIDI tracks, types of interface you can use. Protools = not the best choice on a laptop. Good range of synths and plugins, not as bad a learning curve to use since V8. Logic because it is totally optimized for the platform.
